    Forums Are Fun

Hi! My name is Dianne.  I have been reading the Forum for 2 or 3 wks now, but decided to jump in myself.  My husband and I retired to Maine (Downeast) 2 1/2 yrs ago from Virginia.  We enjoy traveling, but 6 yrs ago started visiting Guatemala, a third world country but beautiful and most interesting people.  A yr ago last May we bought /moved into a house in Antiqua, Guatemala, and our plan was to be in Guate during the Maine winters.  Well and good, until a son and his wife decided to adopt a Guatemalteco baby (they have 2 other children) last Nov. and the process is VERY SLOW to NOT AT ALL for adoptions, so we have been foster parenting our grand daughter to be since last March.  When the process is final we will head back to Maine.  We did get back there for 2 wks beginning of July while the parents to be visited here with Veronica.  Now we are back....as retirees with 6 grown children, 11 other grandchildren, and we are still in the "baby business"  I did shop online for fabrics before going back to the USA, and reacquainted myself with my stash and supplies, filled a big suitcase (yes, the airlines DOES charge for each ck'd bag!) and I am ready to get back to quilting.  I have quilts my grandmothers made, plus I have one quilted in 1938 by my 68 yr old great grandmother.. I always loved quilts but only decided 2 yrs ago to try myself.  Have taken workshops, classes, but alot is self taught thru books.  Have taken some with Quilt University.com (they have forums as well) and enjoyed those.  Now, this is alot of ramblings, so the question is for anyone...with so many patterns out there, how does one pick the best pattern for the fabric?  My husband says I have enough fabric to open a shop, and I have many different patterns I really like, but picking the one to show off the fabric the best is not my strong point.  Does anyone find one and then see another that would be great as well??  Abigalls Tall Sails is wonderful!  I am going to do a Nautical quilt for a friend in Maine who owns a B&B but I am still not "sure" of the best pattern.  Veronica is napping and I better do "stuff" while I can.  Dianne
